Auckland University of Technology (AUT) provides postgraduate scholarships to encourage postgraduate study and research and to recognise student academic achievement.

AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarships are available to students undertaking study including a research component at Level 8 (Bachelor Honours Degree) or Level 9 (Master’s Degree) on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) who have demonstrated the potential to achieve highly. The scholarships are available to students intending to enrol in a programme of study with equivalence of a 30-point (or above) research component in a bachelor with honours degree, or a 45-point (or above) research component in a master’s degree.

Amount and Type of Award:

The scholarship consists of tuition fees and compulsory student services fees (domestic equivalent rate) for:
  • 120pts at Level 8 or above in the approved programme of study completed within a twelve month period; or
  • 180pts at Level 9 in the approved programme of study completed within an eighteen-month period, or
  • 240pts at Level 8 or above in the approved programme of study completed within a twenty four-month period.
Stipend scholarships may also be awarded to top applicants:
  • Tuition fees and compulsory student services fees plus an annual stipend of either $5,000 or $10,000.


Tenure:

The scholarship tenures are:
  • For the 120pts honours or 120pts thesis programme tenure is twelve months of consecutive full-time study only.
  • For a 180pts programme the tenure is eighteen months of consecutive full-time study only.
  • For a 240pts programme the tenure is 24 months of consecutive full-time study only.

Please note that the tenure for the AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarship - MTL Māori and Pacific is for the 180-points programme to be completed over twelve months.

Important Information:

Applications will open in October of the year preceding study for Semester 1 enrolment starts (Master of Philosophy enrolments February or May) and May for Semester 2 enrolment starts (Master of Philosophy enrolments August or November).
