AUT Global Exchange Scholarship

Brief Description:

AUT Global is pleased to offer scholarships to support students to undertake an international exchange experience at an AUT Global partner university. The aim of the AUT Global Exchange Scholarship is to increase the ability of AUT students to participate in outbound exchange opportunities.

Amount and Type of Award:

These scholarship awards are to be used by each recipient to support the travel and accommodation costs associated with their approved AUT Global exchange.

AUT Global Exchange Award
The amount of the AUT Global Exchange Scholarship award is determined by the geographical location of the AUT Global partner university the student attending. These amounts are detailed below.
  • Asia (excl. Japan) - $2,000
  • Japan - $2,500
  • USA/Canada - $3,000
  • UK - $4,000
  • Europe - $6,000
The number of awards available is limited by a capped budget set by each faculty.

Tenure:

The tenure of this scholarship is for one semester.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Application is through the AUT on-line scholarship application portal. Applicants must upload to their application a written statement outlining:
  1. Which university the applicant has been accepted into and why they chose that university.
  2. How the international exchange experience will benefit the applicant.
  3. The financial circumstances that would make it difficult to undertake an overseas exchange.
  4. The applicant’s ability to fund the balance of the costs associated with the exchange if their application is successful (a one semester exchange generally incurs a cost of $12,000-$15,000 depending on the destination).

Applicants must nominate one referee through the portal and send the email request to provide a reference statement through the portal.

CONDITIONS OF SELECTION AND ACCEPTANCE

  • Recipients will be selected by a panel comprising representatives nominated by the AUT Director - International.
  • The decision of the scholarship selection panel is final.
  • Scholarships within each faculty budget are limited.
  • This scholarship cannot be held together with another AUT or AUT Foundation donor sponsored international exchange scholarship.
  • Recipients may co-tenure with other scholarships (not exchange related) with the approval of the University Scholarships Office.
  • If the panel is of the opinion that there is no applicant of sufficient merit, the scholarship will not be awarded.
  • The award will not be paid to the recipient until confirmation of flights and confirmed bank account details are received by the University Scholarships Office.
  • Recipients must complete the exchange as approved. If the exchange does not proceed, the full value of the scholarship must be repaid to the university.
  • Recipients must complete an AUT Global blog template on return to AUT and provide a selection of photos of their exchange semester on request for use on social media to promote AUT Global and the destination they went to.
  • Provided they are not in their final semester, recipients must attend at least one AUT Global event to talk to current AUT students exploring exchange as an opportunity to help promote it.
