AUT Faculty of Business, Economics and Law PhD Scholarship (Accounting)

Brief Description:

The purpose of the PhD Scholarship in Accounting is to support postgraduate research study and to provide the student with the possible experience as teaching and/or research assistant. These scholarships are funded by Faculty and are offered to full-time students on a contestable basis.

Amount and Type of Award:

  • The Awards are available to full-time postgraduate students for up to three years. The total number of awards offered in any academic year will be determined by available funds. Recipients will receive all components of the award. 
  • The AUT PhD Accounting Scholarship will consist of:
    - An award stipend: an amount paid as a tax-free scholarship for living costs while enrolled in a postgraduate qualification at AUT University. This is valued at $19,000 per annum (subject to annual review). The stipend will be payable in monthly instalments.
    - Domestic Tuition Fee equivalent and Student Services Levy for the term of the Award.
    - The possibility of employment as a teaching and/or research assistant, in the department, for the term of the award under a separate employment contract (see Conditions of Award).


Tenure:

  • The duration of the PhD in Accounting Scholarship is for up to three years renewable annually based on satisfactory progress in the doctoral degree.
  • The University has the power to terminate or suspend the award if it receives an unsatisfactory report on the progress of the recipient’s postgraduate studies from the Programme Director.


Important Information:

  • Renewal of the scholarship is conditional on satisfactory performance in the degree programme and in any teaching and/or research assistant role (if applicable). To be considered for renewal recipients will be expected to submit six monthly progress reports (PGR8) and to transition from provisional to full registration (PGR9)within six to nine months (no later than 12 months). If the either the study or any work component is not satisfactory the full award will be forfeit.
