AUT Vice-Chancellor's Doctoral Scholarships

Brief Description:

The purpose of the AUT Vice Chancellor's Doctoral Scholarships is to attract highly achieving doctoral research students to AUT University and to encourage and stimulate doctoral studies in areas of the University's research capability. 

The scholarship is for New doctoral applicants with a GPA of 8.0 or above in their most recent qualifying programme  (or 7.5 or above for New Māori and domestic Pacific doctoral applicants) provided the qualifying programme was completed at a New Zealand university;

New Māori and domestic Pacific doctoral applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.

Description:

Type of award
AUT Vice Chancellor’s Doctoral Scholarships (conditions apply see eligibility criteria)

a. New doctoral applicants with a GPA of 8.0 or above in their most recent qualifying programme will be considered on a case-by-case basis provided the qualifying programme was completed at a New Zealand university and they meet the additional conditions below; or
b. New Māori and domestic Pacific doctoral applicants with a GPA of 7.5 or above, from their most recent qualifying programme will be considered on a case-by-case basis provided the qualifying programme was completed at a New Zealand university and they meet the additional conditions below. Applicants applying under b) must be citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.

Applicants not meeting the criteria to be considered for an AUT Vice Chancellor's Doctoral Scholarship are invited to apply for the AUT  Doctoral Scholarships - 3 contestable rounds in the year with closing dates 1st March, 15th July and 1st November.

The contestable rounds are open to all eligible applicants. Applicants may be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, or International students. Applications normally open one month prior to the closing date.

Amount and Type of Award:

The scholarship covers the following:
  • Annual payment of tuition fees (at the domestic rate) plus the compulsory student services fee
  • An annual stipend of NZ$25,000 per year


Tenure:

The scholarship is tenable for up to three years.  If a recipient has been enrolled for more than six months at the time of application the scholarship tenure will be reduced accordingly.

Important Information:

Applicants must have an unconditional Offer of Place in the PhD programme at AUT at the time of applying for the scholarship.
